Pre-kindergarten

The elementary education program begins with a pre-kindergarten class for children who are four years old or will be by September of the year they begin the program. Our nursery program at Church is where the program begins. The pre-K class is a natural progression from the Church nursery.

By getting the children this early, the teacher can evaluate where they are academically, emotionally, and spiritually, and where their strengths and weaknesses lie. If they need help in some area, the teachers are able to work with them that year and thereby better prepare them for the kindergarten program.

Kindergarten through Sixth Grade

Elementary classes range in size from 5-15 students. All of our classrooms are self-contained. Almost every teacher has teaching assistants, making the teacher-to-student ratio less than one teacher for every ten students.

At Living Word Academy, students have the blessing of being taught by Godly, Spirit-filled teachers.

The Christian curriculum used is one of the most rigorous available today. It lends itself to a traditional teaching approach. Most teachers find the textbooks to be written in a lively, interesting, and memorable way. They especially like the format, since in every subject the text references are filled with Scriptures. Of course, teachers supplement their class curricula with personal insights and experiences.

For testing, outside of the Christian curriculum, state requirements are followed. Art, music, and physical education curricula are based on state guidelines, combined with our own.

In addition to regular physical education classes, elementary students are eligible for intramural sports, such as peewee soccer, youth basketball and youth soccer.

Children have an opportunity to make life-long friendships with one another.

To supplement what they've learned in class, elementary students go on many field trips. These have included visiting planetariums, a fish hatchery, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Nine-Mile Point, the Weather Bureau, Beaver Lake Nature Center, maple syrup production sites, the Hercules candy factory, apple farms, pumpkin farms, and Living Word Camp. Erie Canal Village, the Erie Canal Museum, and the Salt Museum have been visited to stress our community's historical and sociological heritage.
